Arizona Diamondbacks remove Addison Reed from closer role

...

Wednesday, Arizona Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said it was too soon to discuss possibly removing Addison Reed from the closer role after the right-hander had served up a game-losing grand slam to the Washington Nationals’ Michael Taylor earlier that afternoon.

Thursday, team president Derrick Hall said the team was “not there yet” with regards to making a change.

Friday, though, was a new day.

Hale made the announcement before the team opened a three-game series in Philadelphia against the Phillies.

Who will replace Reed is unclear, though the team does have some options.

According to Piecoro, Reed is understanding of the change.

The 26-year-old has converted two of four save opportunities this year. For the season, he has a 0-2 record with a 7.20 ERA in 11 appearances.
