Former Arizona State standout Jaelen Strong was drafted by the Houston Texans in the third round of the NFL Draft on Friday at No. 70 overall.

Strong played two years in Tempe after transferring from Los Angeles Pierce College. He elected to forgo his senior season with the Sun Devils to enter the draft.

The 6-foot-3 wide receiver was widely expected to go in the late first round or early in the second.

In 2014 with ASU, the Philadelphia native posted team highs of 82 receptions, 1,165 yards and 10 touchdowns, earning a spot on ESPN’s All-America Team. Strong had four games of more than 100 yards receiving last season, including a 202-yard effort at USC, in which he caught a 46-yard Hail Mary as time expired to give ASU a win; the play became known as the “Jael Mary.”

Strong is the first wide receiver to be drafted out of ASU since Kyle Williams went to the San Francisco 49ers in the sixth round in 2010.

The 21-year-strong became the second former Sun Devil to be taken in the 2015 draft, as safety Damarious Randall went to Green Bay with the 30th pick in the first round Thursday.
