Now that the Arizona Cardinals’ 2014 season is over, it’s time to reflect. Over the next ten days or so, we’ll look back at the Cardinals’ 11-win campaign, position by position.
In 2013, Arizona’s running game, led by Rashard Mendenhall and rookie Andre Ellington, finished 23rd in the NFL with 1,540 yards gained. Mendenhall retired, Ellington’s role increased, others were brought in and the Cardinals took a step back in 2014, finishing 31st with just 1,308 yards.
Of course, it’s not as simple as saying the loss of Mendenhall was the difference, as plenty of other factors went into Arizona’s struggles on the ground.
