Jake Lamb sends fifth home run of season 481 feet

Apr 29, 2017, 7:39 PM

Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Jake Lamb is having a great April.

He made it even better Saturday night when the left-handed hitter crushed a Tyler Anderson pitch 481 feet to center field in Chase Field to give the D-backs a 6-1 lead over the Colorado Rockies.

It was Lamb’s fifth home run and brought his RBI total up to 21 for the season. Last season, Lamb wouldn’t reach five home runs and 21 RBI until May 16.

Lamb is one of four D-backs to have at least 19 RBI in the first month of the season, joining Paul Goldschmidt, Yasmany Tomas and Chris Owings, who has surprised many with his .329 batting average to start the season.

The homer came off a left-handed pitcher, the first for Lamb this season.

In the 26-year-old’s short career thus far, he’s had his struggles against left-handed pitching. Last season, Lamb hit just .164 in his 110 plate appearances against lefties.

This season, Lamb’s up to 25 at-bats, but the numbers are still low. He’s hitting .200 in those plate appearances.

Lamb has played in 23 of the D-backs’ 26 games. In those three games, it was a left-handed starting pitcher for the D-backs’ opponent. Infielder Daniel Descalso has gotten the start at third in those three games.
