The Diamondbacks placed catcher Chris Iannetta on the seven-day concussion disabled list Sunday as he recovers from taking a pitch to the nose and mouth Friday. The team said it continued to monitor his progress Sunday, but Iannetta had tested negative for concussion symptoms.

“I got lucky on all accounts. Teeth are kind of messed up. Other than that, OK,” Iannetta told the media Sunday.

Iannetta also was unsure if he’d broken his nose; the doctor only saw a fracture that could have been from an injury when the catcher was 13, he said.

Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Johnny Barbato inadvertently struck Iannetta with a pitch in the seventh inning of Arizona’s win Friday.

The transaction will be retroactive to Saturday, and in Iannetta’s place on the roster, Arizona recalled reliever Silvino Bracho from Triple-A Reno.

Iannetta has appeared in 20 games this year, batting .220 with three home runs and six RBI.

Bracho appeared in two games for the Diamondbacks this year, allowing four runs (three earned) in 1.1 innings pitched.

With Triple-A Reno, Bracho has a 1.98 ERA — three earned runs allowed in 13.2 innings pitched — with three saves. He has 24 strikeouts in 11 appearances.
