The Arizona Diamondbacks moved Patrick Corbin’s next appearance up a day against the Reds to replace scheduled starter Taijuan Walker, who was placed on the paternity leave list prior to the Thursday game.

Starting on short notice, Corbin went 7.1 innings against the Reds, allowing seven hits, one earned run and a walk to go with six strikeouts. He left the game in the eighth inning with Arizona leading 6-1 before Arizona tacked on another six runs in the ninth for a 12-2 victory in Cincinnati.

Jake Lamb led Arizona with six RBIs off two three-run home runs.

Corbin’s earned run came on a solo home run allowed to Cincinnati’s Eugenio Suarez in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Reds loaded the bases without an out thereafter, but Corbin recorded three straight outs to leave the inning without more damage done.

The 24-year-old Walker and his wife, Heather, are expecting their first child.

Walker is 6-4 with a 3.61 ERA this season in 15 starts.

Replacing him on the roster, the D-backs recalled right-handed pitcher Matt Koch from Triple-A Reno.

Koch is 1-1 with a 8.47 ERA (16 earned runs in 17.0 innings pitched) for Reno. The 26-year-old made seven appearances for Arizona last year, including two starts, and went 1-1 with a 2.00 ERA (four earned runs in 18.0 innings).
