The Arizona Diamondbacks placed Randall Delgado on the 60-day DL Sunday, and in a corresponding move, selected infielder/outfielder Christian Walker from Triple-A Reno.

Delgado was “shut down” by D-backs manager Torey Lovullo earlier in the weekend, but it was unclear as to whether or not Delgado would miss the rest of the season. That was made official Sunday because of his flexor strain in his right elbow.

On the season, Delgado was 1-2 with a 3.59 ERA in 62.2 innings.

Walker, 26, has been one of the best hitters in minor league baseball this season.

The Pacific Coast League MVP hit .309 for the Aces with 32 home runs and 114 RBI. On top of that, Walker had 34 doubles, nine triples, 61 walks and 104 runs scored. He is one of three players in professional baseball this year with at least 30 home runs, 100 RBI and 100 runs, joining D-backs first baseman Paul Goldschmidt and Miami Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton.

Walker led all of minor league baseball in RBI and extra-base hits (75). He was acquired off waivers from the Cincinnati Reds in late March. He has 13 games of Major League experience.

He played a majority of his games at first base this season while also playing at third base and in the outfield.

The move put the D-backs’ active roster at 35 and the 40-man roster at 40.
