Texans’ Deshaun Watson dedicates first paycheck to support Harvey relief

Three women who work in the cafeteria at the home of the Houston Texans, NRG Stadium, were affected by Hurricane Harvey and Texans rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson wanted to help.

Watson decided to donate his first professional game check to them.

“For what you all do for us every day and never complain, I really appreciate you all, so I wanted to give my first game check to y’all to help y’all out in some type of way,” Watson said in a video shared by the Texans on Twitter. “Here you guys go.”

Watson donated a check for $27,353, according to ESPN. The quarterback’s base salary is $465,000.

Habitat for Humanity once built Watson and his family a house.

The 22-year-old Clemson alum’s numbers in a season opening defeat to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sept. 10 at home did not impress, but Watson and his teammates were clearly focused on raising awareness for Harvey survivors.

Texans defensive end J.J. Watt raised more than $30 million for the Houston area, and various players and team across the league have contributed monetarily.

Hurricanes Harvey and Irma have certainly shifted the early season focus of players, coaches, owners and front office personnel away from football.
