The University of Arizona men’s basketball team announced Friday assistant coach Mark Phelps has been suspended five games without pay.

The suspension was for a violation of NCAA rules, and a statement said it is not related to an ongoing federal investigation of a scandal that cost Arizona assistant Emanuel Richardson and Louisville head coach Rick Pitino their jobs.

In addition, Arizona senior Keanu Pinder “is being withheld” from Friday’s game against NAU, the school said, for a violation of NCAA rules. He will be available on Sunday.

Phelps is in his third year as an assistant with the program. He was formerly the head coach at Drake University for five seasons.
