Arizona assistant basketball coach Emanuel Richardson has been suspended and relieved of all duties, the school announced Tuesday.

Richardson was charged with fraud and corruption in college basketball Tuesday morning and was one of 10 coaches charged in New York City federal court.

“We were appalled to learn of the allegations as they do not reflect the standards we hold ourselves to and require from our colleagues,” the university said in a statement. “The University of Arizona has a strong culture of compliance and the expectation is we follow the rules.”

A statement from Arizona athletics said they became aware of Richardson’s situation Tuesday morning and they will fully cooperate with authorities.

“The behavior that Richardson is accused of is completely unacceptable and does not reflect the principles of this athletics department,” they said in a statement.

Richardson has been with the program since 2009. His chief responsibility is recruiting.

The team’s media day was scheduled for Wednesday but has been postponed.
