Lost in the hoopla of National Signing Day was the story of 17-year-old Jace Malek.
Malek, recruited to the University of Idaho on a football scholarship, was recently diagnosed with cancer after doctors found a cantaloupe-sized tumor in his hip. Malek contacted the coaching staff immediately, assuming his scholarship would be revoked.
The exact opposite happened.
Malek told KHQ that the Idaho coaches told him “Idaho is not leaving your side.”
So just like many other high school graduates, Malek officially signed his letter of intent on Wednesday.
His goals include graduating college, becoming a famous college football coach and having a movie made about his journey. Lofty expectations, but goals Malek will get an opportunity to fulfill thanks to the Idaho Vandals.
