Chicago Cubs prospect Kris Bryant donates new uniforms to his high school

Feb 28, 2015, 8:12 PM | Updated: 8:33 pm

Kris Bryant is a top-10 Major League Baseball prospect and was the No. 2 overall pick by the Chicago Cubs in the 2013 MLB June Amateur Draft.

But none of that has kept the 23-year-old from remembering where he came from.

Bryant, who has spent the last two years in the Cubs farm system, recently donated new cleats and two new sets of uniforms to his alma mater, Bonanza High School in Las Vegas.

Bryant said he did it because he “wanted to do something special” for his school, which has limited finances.

“The responses I got from the kids were unbelievable,” he told cubs.mlb.com Saturday from the Cubs’ spring training facility in Mesa. “They weren’t expecting it, which was really cool.”

This is just the most recent example of Bryant’s selflessness. In November, he went out of his way to save a collector a lot of money.

Bryant’s words suggest he isn’t only generous — he’s wise beyond his years.

“I think I’m in a position where I can help people, and I’m here to do that,” he said. “We’re all put on this earth for some reason, and through baseball, I think I can help a lot of people out.”
