Former Arizona Wildcats guard Rawle Alkins will work out for the Phoenix Suns next week after he showcases himself this week for the Sacramento Kings and Atlanta Hawks, reports ZagsBlogs’ Adam Zagoria.

Alkins is a projected second-round pick who could be on the board when Phoenix picks 31st overall or potentially at their 59th pick.

The Suns announced Wednesday that they would hold their first public prospect workout at Talking Stick Resort Arena on Friday and will hold a second one Monday. The team will not release names of attendees until the day-of.

Coming off a sophomore season where he was limited to 23 games due to injury, Alkins could benefit from a strong string of workouts.

Measured at 6-foot-4.25 and 217 pounds with a 6-foot-8.75 wingspan at the NBA Draft Combine, he must prove he can be a consistently elite defender and improve upon his 37 percent three-point shooting over two college seasons.

Alkins averaged 13.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists for Arizona in 2017-18 while sharing the court with potential No. 1 overall pick Deandre Ayton and fellow early-entry guard prospect Allonzo Trier.

Alkins flashed above-average passing ability for a shooting guard and strong defensive instincts aided by his athleticism. Alkins tied for sixth at the NBA Combine with a max vertical leap of 40.5.

During the combine last week, Alkins went 1-for-8 for four points and five rebounds in one scrimmage. He scored 17 points to go with six boards and five blocks in a second game.

Zagoria reports that Alkins expects to work out for at least 10 teams and will attend a pro day next Thursday at the Impact Gym in Las Vegas, where all 30 teams will watch him compete with fellow guards Anfernee Simons (high school), Troy Brown (Oregon), Jacob Evans (Cincinnati) and Brandon McCoy (UNLV).

From the Suns’ perspective, Alkins could be an option if they want to build wing depth behind Devin Booker and Josh Jackson.
