The Arizona Diamondbacks are among the many teams interested in acquiring Baltimore Orioles reliever Zach Britton, reports The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.

As it was with Arizona’s reported involvement in the Manny Machado sweepstakes before the former Baltimore slugger was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the D-backs will be limited due to their thin farm system and the competing offers from a crowded group of Britton suitors.

The Houston Astros, Chicago Cubs, New York Yankees and Dodgers are all in the mix, reports Fancred.com’s Jon Heyman.

Even more concerning is that Arizona’s current competition for two National League Wild Card spots, the Milwaukee Brewers, Atlanta Braves and Colorado Rockies, are interested in Britton as well, according to Heyman.

Those three teams, plus the D-backs, are within 2.0 games of one another in the standings as of Monday morning.

A two-time All-Star in 2015 and 2016, Britton is in the final year of his contract that will pay him $12 million this year.

He led the American League in saves during the 2016 season and this year holds a 3.45 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and four saves in 16 appearances.

The 30-year-old has allowed six earned runs, 11 hits and 10 walks with 13 strikeouts in 15.2 innings pitched so far in 2018.
