With the start of the 2018 season, eyes are set on the Arizona Cardinals’ quarterback rotation.

Eight-year veteran Sam Bradford was listed as the starting quarterback for the Cardinals on the team’s first unofficial depth chart. Rookie Josh Rosen was listed as the backup.

That leaves Mike Glennon, who signed a two-year, $8 million deal in March, at third string.

With Bradford assured as the starter and Rosen cemented as the quarterback of the future, Glennon’s standing in the rotation is a bit murky.

That could lead to trade rumors, but does Glennon have trade value?

While some might question his overall value in the league, Glennon could have some on the trade market, according to ESPN. He was listed as one of 15 backup quarterbacks who could get moved.

Assuming Bradford’s battle with lingering injuries subsides in Arizona and Rosen continues to impress in training camp, the Cardinals could see no use for Glennon.

Entering his sixth season, Glennon has a 47.3 career QBR as a starter with a 6-16 record. His performances in four starts with the Chicago Bears last season were not stellar, but ESPN notes his stats matched the Bears’ starter the year prior.

The numbers Glennon put up during four starts with Chicago last season mirrored the numbers Jay Cutler put up with the Bears a year earlier: four touchdowns, five picks, passer rating in the upper 70s, QBR in the 20s.

Factors such as lack of surrounding talent on the Bears and the team wanting to restart the franchise with Mitch Trubisky are why Glennon did not have a future in Chicago.

So, why should a team take a chance on him?

“Arizona would need to get a good return to pull the trigger because Glennon will be a good value next year [in 2019] at $3 million with nothing guaranteed, assuming he would be Rosen’s backup then,” an exec said.

Teams around the league will be more likely to take a look at Glennon, but it all mainly depends on Bradford’s upcoming season. The 30-year-old is on a one-year deal with the Cardinals that includes a player option for next year, so he is in control of his destiny. If healthy, the team could bring Bradford back next season and his role would likely depend on Rosen’s development.

Under that situation, the Cardinals could no longer see a fit in Glennon, making him expendable and an option for other teams to pursue.
