D-backs’ Jon Jay attempts to rob home run, gets beer on him instead

There is a lot that can go right and wrong for an outfielder when they are attempting to rob a home run.

From crashing into the wall to mistiming the jump, a certain level of expertise is required to pull it off.

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Jon Jay has that expertise, but he did not account for one stray variable: a San Diego Padres fan with a beer.

In the bottom of the fifth inning on Friday night, Jay went back in left field to track a ball hit by Padres first baseman Eric Hosmer.

At the wall, Jay properly tracked the ball and saw he had to reach into the stands with his glove.

When his glove arrived, it was met by a fan’s beer, which appeared to make contact with Jay’s glove and spill all over.

What was originally ruled a home run was challenged by D-backs manager Torey Lovullo.

During the review, Jay was seen reacting to a video fo the play on a big screen, with a, “see, I told you!” type of expression.

The evidence, though, was not ruled to have been enough for the play to be overturned for fan interference and was kept as a home run.

TV cameras caught the fan coming back to his seat with a fresh beer, shrugging his shoulders along the way while attempting to look innocent.
