Former ASU Pitcher Trevor Williams dons special Player’s Weekend name

Major League Baseball had some fun with Player’s Weekend nicknames, but one person is taking a more serious approach to the fun filled event.
Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Trevor Williams is donning the nickname “Project” under his regular number of 34 in honor of his former teammate, Cory Hahn.

Williams and Hahn were teammates at Arizona State when Hahn suffered a spinal cord injury while stealing a base that left him paralyzed from the chest down.
Together, the two launched Project 34, a charity to aid those who live with spinal cord injuries.
Williams will honor his friend and charity by showcasing the name of the charity on his back during Player’s Weekend.
Since he pitched on Wednesday for the Pirates earning a no decision after throwing six innings in a 2-1 loss to the Atlanta Braves, it isn’t likely Williams will take the mound in the special threads.
Although he isn’t scheduled to appear until next Wednesday’s tilt against the Atlanta Braves, Williams will bring more recognition to the foundation by honoring his friend with the special jersey, even if it’s just from the Pirates’ bench.
