The Arizona Diamondbacks have returned Rule 5 draft pick Nick Green to the New York Yankees, the team announced Sunday.

The team was required to send Green back to his original team if he was not to make the D-backs’ 25-man Opening Day roster.

Green posted a 2.70 ERA in six spring training appearances with the D-backs.

With Green’s departure, the D-backs have 29 players left in spring training camp and 39 players on the 40-man roster.

D-backs’ manager Torey Lovullo said Sunday he expects to finalize the Opening Day roster in the next 12 to 24 hours.

Arizona opens its season on Thursday on the road against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
