After being designated for assignment by the Arizona Diamondbacks, pitcher Zack Godley is reportedly headed up north.

98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s John Gambadoro confirmed Wednesday that Godley has been claimed off waivers by the Toronto Blue Jays.

AZCentral’s Nick Piecoro was the first to report the waiver claim.

Originally tabbed as one of the team’s starting pitchers ahead of Opening Day, Godley struggled to find his footing.

After posting a 7.58 ERA in his first six starts in April, manager Torey Lovullo demoted the pitcher out of the starting rotation.

Following his demotion, Godley played in 21 games (46.1 IP) as mostly a bullpen arm, starting three times. He earned two saves over that span, but gave up 29 earned runs and seven homers on 48 hits, while striking out 33.

This season with the D-backs, Godley went 3-5 with a 6.39 ERA. He allowed a total of 54 earned runs and 12 home runs on 81 hits, while striking out 58.

In six of his last eight outings, however, Godley produced scoreless innings, but nonetheless, the right-hander owned a 6.39 ERA on the season through 76 innings.

Godley has shown he could be a serviceable starter.

In 2017, the pitcher went 8-9, posting a 3.37 ERA and 165 strikeouts in 25 starts and a relief appearance. He followed that up with a 15-11 record in 2018, posting a 4.74 ERA and 185 strikeouts.

It’s unknown as to how the Blue Jays will utilize Godley, whether it be in the bullpen or the starting rotation.
