The Kansas City Chiefs are the landing spot for outside linebacker Terrell Suggs, who was waived by the Arizona Cardinals on Friday, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Monday.

Rapoport added that the Chiefs’ addition of Suggs is done in the wake of pass-rusher Alex Okafor injuring his pectoral muscle. Okafor, coincidentally, is a former Cardinal.

Suggs played in 13 games for the Cardinals this year. He had 37 total tackles, 5.5 sacks and four forced fumbles before he and Arizona parted ways.

The team and linebacker had ongoing conversations leading to his release. Arizona wanted to get a look at fellow outside linebackers Cassius Marsh and Haason Reddick, the latter of whom has recently switched from inside linebacker to outside linebacker.

The Cardinals also wanted to give Suggs, a future Hall of Famer who attended Chandler’s Hamilton High School and went to Arizona State, the opportunity to join another team in the playoff mix.

Multiple reports indicated Suggs was hoping to land back with the Baltimore Ravens, the only team he knew before he returned to the desert as a free agent this offseason. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Suggs told confidants that he would consider not reporting to another team that claimed him.

Baltimore, however, was last in the NFL claim order because of its 12-2 record, and now one of the AFC’s other divisional leaders apparently has kept him from adding juice to a Ravens’ defense that would know how to fully utilize and quickly integrate the 37-year-old.
