Raiders not allowing UNLV to use new stadium for football game against ASU

The Oakland Raiders, soon to be the Las Vegas Raiders, will not allow UNLV to use the new Allegiant Stadium for two of next season’s college football games.

One of those games in question is Sept. 12 when UNLV is slated to host Arizona State. The other is Sept. 5 against Louisiana Tech.

According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, UNLV and the Raiders signed a Joint Use Agreement along with the Nevada Board of Regents that allows UNLV to play two non-conference games at the new stadium in the first year.

The Rebels will open their season Aug. 29 at Allegiant against California.

That game is not in dispute.

Raiders team president Marc Badain said in a statement on Thursday that those dates are being held for concerts and other events, according to the Review Journal.

UNLV athletic director Desiree Reed-Francois told the Review Journal that UNLV is exploring every option.

UNLV’s conference games are not expected to be affected, even though the Mountain West schedule has yet to be released.

If the issue is not resolved, the games would be played at Sam Boyd Stadium. At UNLV’s final home game of last season, the team honored the stadium’s history because they believed it would be the last home game played there.

The two sides will have to come to a resolution. If they can’t make a decision, the Las Vegas Stadium Authority would make the decision.
