The Arizona Diamondbacks announced Thursday that they had added outfielder Kristian Robinson to the 60-player pool and assigned him to the alternate training site at Salt River Fields.

Robinson is the team’s No. 1 prospect according to MLB Pipeline.

The 19-year-old played at Single-A Kane County and Low-A Hillsboro last year, where he hit a combined .282 with 14 home runs and 51 RBIs in 69 games. In 2018, his first year of professional baseball, he batted .279 at the Rookie level.

He’s the No. 47 prospect in all of baseball, per MLB Pipeline. The D-backs have four other players on the top 100: Alek Thomas (53), catcher and outfielder Daulton Varsho (82) — who is already on the major league squad — shortstop Geraldo Perdomo (91) and outfielder Corbin Carroll (99).

Because there is no minor league season this year, teams are using alternate training sites to have live batting practice and scrimmages for players that are not on the active roster. Many teams have put their top prospects those player pools to get them reps when there are little to be had.

From MLB Pipeline’s scouting report on on Robinson:

Robinson is both a physical specimen — listed at 6-foot-3, 190 pounds — and an impressive athlete who shows the makings of having average or better tools across the board. He has the type of prodigious right-handed power that could one day make him one of the game’s more revered sluggers, and he already applies it during games from line-to-line.
