Hudson is the silver lining to 2010’s dark cloud

As the saying goes, every dark cloud has a silver lining.

At least, that’s what people tell themselves when things aren’t going so well. Whether or not you really believe it to be true, the concept has been alive and well within Valley sports over the last year.

“Daniel Hudson is to last year what Marcin Gortat was to the Suns this year,” Dave Burns said on Sports 620 KTAR’s Sports Interactive. “The only great thing to come out of an otherwise completely forgettable year.”

The Diamondbacks, you may remember (our apologies if you’ve been able to erase it from your memory), lost 97 games last year. This year the Suns missed the playoffs after struggling to remain relevant most of the way. So really, the comparison makes a lot of sense.

All Hudson has done since becoming a Diamondback on July 25th of 2010 is go 17-6 with an ERA of 2.86. Gortat, on the other hand, averaged 9.5 points and 9.3 rebounds per game, giving Phoenix the center they’ve lacked for pretty much their entire history.

“There wasn’t anything worthwhile that came out of the Suns last year except for getting Marcin Gortat, same thing can be said about the Diamondbacks — a year ago — when they got Daniel Hudson,” Burns added. “Completely forgettable season, but man, they got Daniel Hudson…it’s a miracle they were able to pull that off.”

Indeed.
