D-backs could pursue Isringhausen in trade

PHOENIX – The Arizona Diamondbacks are believed to be looking for a reliever at the trade deadline to bolster their bullpen and a new name has surfaced as a possible target.

The D-backs could make a run for New York Mets reliever Jason Isringhausen to provide another quality arm to go along with David Hernandez and J.J. Putz.

Some believe that Isringhausen might be a nice addition for Arizona, but with some limitations attached as well.

“He’s fearless and been there before. He’s a veteran pitcher who’s not going to spit it up when it really counts,” said ESPN insider Tim Kurkjian on the Sports 620 KTAR’s Gambo and Ash show on Tuesday.

In 37 appearances this season, Isringhausen has compiled a 2.93 ERA.

“He could probably be a seventh inning guy, but only at times.”

“His arm has had so many surgeries. He can’t be a workhorse guy that pitches every other game. I just don’t think he’s going to be durable enough,” said Kurkjian.

However, if the D-backs don’t have to give up much to get him, he might be a considerable upgrade in their bullpen even if they can only use him on a limited basis.
