After every Arizona Diamondbacks game we’ll examine the
box score and
provide you with instant analysis. So it’s time to go
Inside the Box for July
20, 2011: Brewers 5, Diamondbacks 2

The Good:

Starter Joe Saunders gave Arizona a chance in this game as he went seven solid innings only giving up five hits and two runs lowering his ERA to 3.82 in the process.

Saunders, after struggling early in the season, has emerged to give Arizona three capable starters along with Kennedy and Hudson.

Arizona trailed 2-0 but tied the game in the eighth inning on a Willie Bloomquist two-RBI double.

The Bad:

Shortstop Stephen Drew suffered most likely a season-ending injury when he broke his ankle on a slide at home plate.

Drew has been struggling lately, but the D-backs are severely going to miss his defense and leadership.

Look for Cody Ransom to get the call-up from Triple-A Reno to take his place.

In addition to Drew’s injury, the D-backs suffered a tough loss on the field as well as they squandered a golden opportunity to win the game in the ninth inning when they had a runner on third with nobody out.

However, Chris Young and Ryan Roberts hit weak ground balls to third and Sean Burroughs flied out to end the threat.

Reliever Ryan Cook made his Major League debut, but will probably want to forget it as he took the loss giving up three runs and being unable to retire any of the four batters he faced in the 10th inning.
