Drew injury does not change D-backs’ plans

The only thing that will change for the Arizona Diamondbacks now that short stop Stephen Drew is out for the season is that they’ll have a new starting short stop.

According to general manager Kevin Towers, the team still has an eye towards making some deals.

“Pitching is still our priority,” he said.

Even though they are still trailing the Giants and will now be without a starter, Towers said the team will still see what they can do to get better.

“I think the players know and the coaching staff knows that from the front office and an ownership standpoint that the effort’s going to be there,” he said. “But I’m not going to do anything dumb either.”

So, don’t expect the Diamondbacks to part with some top prospects just so they can have a better chance this season. Saying he wants to win for several years, Towers added that the plan is still to make a run at the NL West crown.

“I don’t ever believe in conceding seasons until you have to,” he said. “When you’re four games out, regardless of the injury, to me good your good teams are able to put that behind them.”

The D-backs are going to have to, as there is still plenty of work to do if they are to reach the postseason for the first time sin 2007.
