The Diamondbacks bullpen received a boost Tuesday, as the team reinstated closer J.J. Putz from the 15-day disabled list. In another move, the team placed IF Geoff Blum on the 15-day DL with a fractured right pinkie finger and selected the contract of outfielder Colin Cowgill from Triple-A Reno.
Putz, who was placed on the DL June 29 with right elbow tendinitis, is 1-2 on the year with 21 saves and an ERA of 3.12. He allowed a pair of hits while striking out three in four rehabilitation appearances.
The 25-year-old Cowgill gets the call as the Diamondbacks OF could use a boost, especially after Gerardo Parra took a pitch off his hand over the weekend. He was having a great year for the Aces, hitting .354 with 13 home runs and 70 RBI in 98 games.
