Derrick Hall not celebrating anything yet

Despite a seven and a half game lead over the San Francisco Giants, Diamondbacks CEO Derrick Hall is not going to be content until the playoff spot is official.

Hall spoke to Arizona Sports 620’s Doug and Wolf and was asked about the sale of post-season tickets.

“There’s a fine line of jinxing.”

Hall said every team has their pricing approved by the league yet he wasn’t comfortable doing so, “I’m not one in favor of doing it because of the jinx but the season ticket holders have started buying their tickets.”

Hall does not sound like the president of a team who is on the verge of clinching a division championship and has been playing its best ball in the past month. Take it as a sign that he is just another person to buy into manager Kirk Gibson’s one game at a time approach.

“Gibby will not look ahead. He wants to take care of business,” said Hall.

The president and CEO sounds positive and excited for his players.

“We need to keep winning series,” said Hall. “We have to take care of business and worry about ourselves.

“I know our guys are having fun but they are focused and they want to earn the right to say they made the playoffs.”

Hall said general manager Kevin Towers has sent scouts to evaluate the possible post-season competition, but he refused to give any sign that he has already counted the division as a lock.

“The players are a blue-collar, gritty group and they’re not going to celebrate anything until there’s something to celebrate.”
