Trevor Bauer Mania continues

Arizona Diamondbacks’ right-hander Trevor Bauer has been a
popular topic this spring locally and nationally, whether
he’s scheduled to pitch that day or not.
Friday, Bauer made his second Cactus League start against
the Seattle Mariners in Peoria, so naturally 80% of the
pre-game discussion with manager Kirk Gibson was about
Bauer and his future with the D-backs at the Major League
level.
“He threw one game,” Gibson said. “He’s got a lot to
learn, I would tell you that right now. He knows what he’s
doing. This will be a real learning experience for him.
He’s really cherished the opportunity to be here.”
Gibson was also asked again about Bauer’s unorthodox
routine for warm ups and training.
“My guess is if you could see him three years in the big
leagues, let’s say through three years, I think he’ll
modify it somewhat,” Gibson explained. “I think what we
want to do is allow him to have comfort in what he does.
We’ve asked him to change a couple things and he’s done
it, but they haven’t been wholesale changes. It’s been
something that he’s very open-minded to whatever we’ve
asked him to do.”
So the question still remains: Will Bauer be on the D-
backs Major League roster sooner rather than later?
“I don’t think about that at all,” Gibson said. “I just
want the kid to go out and it’s his second start. The most
important part is just to keep him going in the right
direction as far as his innings. We’ll see what happens at
the end of spring, where we’re at. He’s got a lot to
learn, he’s learned a lot. Could he come with us in the
near future? I don’t know. There’s other guys that want to
be here, too.”
