ESPN MLB insider on D-backs: Not a dire situation

The Arizona Diamondbacks are sputtering along with a 16-21
record, looking nothing like a team that can contend for
the National League crown.
Already 8.5 games back of the NL West-leading Dodgers,
some are prepared to write the D-backs off.
Not so fast, says ESPN MLB insider Tim Kurkjian.
“If the Diamondbacks can just hang around, just hang in
there with half of their roster on the disabled list,”
Kurkjian told Arizona Sports 620’s Burns and Gambo
Wednesday, “and just be six, seven games out…”
The change in MLB’s playoff system along with the
mediocrity of the National League leads Kurkjian to
believing that while the D-backs are certainly down,
they’re not at all out.
“They’re going to have to get healthy and they’re going to
have to play really well at some point, but for now this
is not a dire situation because it’s dire for the entire
National League right now,” he said. “No one is good
enough to run away.”
