A closer look: Bauer makes MLB debut as D-backs avoid sweep against Braves

Sure, you could read the box score and know who won,
but
we all know that won’t tell you everything that happened
in a baseball game. So, we will give you a closer look,
providing you with the analysis, quotes and notes from the
D-backs’ June 28 win against Atlanta. Final score: Diamondbacks 3, Braves 2.

The Good:

Chris Young’s ninth inning solo home run propelled the
Diamondbacks to a win over Atlanta Thursday night.

Trevor Bauer made his career debut and managed respectable
numbers in doing so. Bauer pitched four innings, giving up five
hits and two earned runs while throwing 74 pitches.
Thursday’s game was a large sample of what is to come for
the Diamondbacks on the mound, as Patrick Corbin took the
mound for 3 innings after Bauer was pulled. Corbin gave up
just one hit in his first game after being recalled from Triple-A
Reno earlier in the week.

The Bad:

Justin Upton was caught stealing, again. It’s the seventh
time this season Upton has been caught stealing, while he
has collected only nine stolen bases on the year. Upton
had 21 steals in 2011, and is only two away from his
career high in caught stealing (9).

He said it:

“They’re a good ball club and it’s great to get a win
against them,” Chris Young told Fox Sports. “Hopefully we
can carry that momentum over to Milwaukee.”

Noted:

Willie Bloomquist started at third base for the
first time since 2010. With Stephen Drew back in the lineup, Ryan
Roberts struggling this season and Josh Bell
being reassigned to Triple-A, Bloomquist should see more regular
playing time at third base. The veteran, who was making his 86th
career start at the hot corner, made a diving grab
and throw to steal a hit from Martin Prado for the last
out of the game.

Coming up next:

The Diamondbacks will travel to Milwaukee for a three-game
series with the Brewers (34-41). Ian Kennedy (5-7, 4.42)
is expected to make the start against Milwaukee lefty Randy Wolf
(2-5,
5.32).
