ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS

Stephen Drew receiving interest from handful of teams

Stephen Drew’s days as an Arizona Diamondback may be
numbered.

According to FoxSports.com’s Ken Rosenthal and Jon
Morosi
, the shortstop is drawing interest from a
handful of teams.

The Pirates, Red Sox and Tigers are among the teams
interested in Drew, according to major-league sources.

However, ESPN’s Buster Olney tweeted the Red Sox and
Pirates are not in on the Drew sweepstakes.

Drew is hitting .192 this season, though he seems to be
moving well after returning from a gruesome ankle injury
suffered last season.

The 29-year-old likely will not have his $10 million
option picked up by the D-backs next season, which would
in turn make him a free agent. Knowing that, the D-backs
may be motivated to get something for Drew now rather than
let him walk for nothing.

Without Drew the D-backs could start a combination of
Willie Bloomquist and John McDonald at shortstop.
