Tyler Skaggs shines bright in Diamondbacks debut

Aug 22, 2012, 8:35 PM | Updated: 10:45 pm

Tyler Skaggs was the last of the D-backs “Big Three” pitching prospects to make his Major League Debut in 2012, which he did in the team’s 3-2 victory over the Miami Marlins Wednesday.

He was also the best.

Skaggs, called up from Triple-A Reno for this start, pitched into the seventh inning and left with his team ahead in the ballgame and with the fans on their feet in appreciation.

“It was phenomenal,” the rookie said of the standing ovation from the fans. “The greatest feeling I’ve ever had so far in my whole life.”

Skaggs finished the day having tossed 6.2 innings while allowing two runs on three hits, while walking five and striking out four.

Not bad, kid.

In comparison, fellow lefty Patrick Corbin’s debut, which happened to be against this same Marlins team (though in Miami, not Phoenix), saw the rookie toss 5.2 innings while allowing eight hits and three earned runs. He walked three and struck out six, recording a win.

Trevor Bauer, on the other hand, lasted just four innings against the Braves in his debut, allowing two runs on five hits while walking three and striking out three.
