Sure, you could read the box score and know who won, but we all know that won’t tell you everything that happened in a baseball game. So, we will give you a closer look, providing you with the analysis, quotes and notes from the D-backs’ August 30 win against the Dodgers. Final score: Diamondbacks 2, Dodgers 0.

The Good:

D-backs starter Ian Kennedy tossed a gem against the rival Dodgers Thursday night, notching his 12th win of the season.

The right-hander pitched 6 1/3 shutout innings, allowing just two hits and recording seven punchouts.

Chris Young launched a two-run home run off Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw (12-8), providing the only offense Kennedy would need to end the D-backs six-game losing streak.

The Bad:

Aside from Young, the D-backs offense struggled against Kershaw. The left-hander struck out nine Diamondbacks over six innings of work.

He Said It:

“He was very good attacking the zone,” D-backs manager Kirk Gibson said regarding Kennedy. “He mixed it up a little better. He managed his pitch count really well and got us deeper in the game.”

Noted:

Third baseman Chris Johnson was scratched from the lineup with the flu.

The Diamondbacks extended their winning streak over the Dodgers to seven in a row and are now an impressive 5-1 at Dodger Stadium this year.

Up Next:

The D-backs and Dodgers will play game two of their four-game set on Friday at 7:10 p.m. Right-hander Trevor Cahill (9-11, 3.99) gets the nod for Arizona. He will be opposed by fellow righty Aaron Harang (9-8, 3.70).
