The Arizona Diamondbacks parted ways with hitting coach Darnell Coles and assistant hitting coach Eric Hinske on Thursday.

In place of Coles and Hinske, the team named Triple-A Reno hitting coach Rick Short and run production coordinator Drew Hedman as co-hitting coaches.

Both Coles and Hinske had been at their respective positions in 2018.

The firings come following the team’s 19th straight road loss just a day prior. In four of the last five outings, the D-backs have failed to score more than two runs, including two shutouts. Arizona is 5-25 since May 4.

Short spent two seasons as Double-A Jackson’s hitting coach before taking over the same role with the Aces this year.

He was also a hitting coach for Single-A Kane County in 2018 and coached Rookie Advanced Missoula a season earlier. Short got his start with the D-backs as an area scout from 2010-17.

Short spent 12 seasons in the minors for the Baltimore Orioles (1994-2000), Chicago Cubs (2001), Los Angeles Angels (2002), Kansas City Royals (2004) and Washington Expos/Nationals (2004-05) before making his MLB debut in 2005 with the Nationals. He also played five seasons in Japan and took home the Pacific League batting title in 2008.

Hedman originally started out as a professional scout for Arizona in 2018. In his third year as the Aces’ run production coordinator, Hedman aides the MLB coaching staff with advanced scouting process for hitters.

Before joining the D-backs, Hedman played four seasons in the Boston Red Sox organization (2009-2012). Following his time in Boston, he went to work with the Nationals and was an assistant coach for Vanderbilt’s 2014 national championship team.

The D-backs will look to snap their seven-game losing Friday against the Los Angeles Angels. Tune to ESPN 620 AM at 6:40 p.m. for all the action.
