Arizona Diamondbacks can’t hang in extra innings: By the Numbers

Rubby De La Rosa gave the D-backs another solid start.

Nick Ahmed continued strong production.

Paul Goldschmidt was Goldschmidt-y but the D-backs lost to the Dodgers 6-4 Tuesday to go 5-6 during this 16-game stretch against NL West opponents.

It was 3-3 at the end of the ninth but the Dodgers used three runs in the tenth to put this one away.

Gotta love free baseball. It only took one extra inning for the Dodgers to take this one though.

The Dodgers doubled their run total, scoring three in the 10th. On the first at-bat of the extra inning, Howie Kendrick homered off of David Hernandez and Yasmani Grandal brought in two on a double. Paul Goldschmidt did his part to keep this one going with an RBI double but that would be the only time the Diamondbacks scored in the 10th.

Rubby De La Rosa’s ERA over his past four starts. Tuesday night, he pitched 5.2 innings, allowing two runs and striking out seven. Regardless of a stellar #RubbyTuesday, the bullpen couldn’t get him the win.

The number of pitchers the D-backs used to finish this game. We saw Oliver Perez, Enrique Burgos, Randall Delgado, Daniel Hudson, Brad Ziegler, David Hernandez and Matt Stites, who was recalled from Triple-A Reno Tuesday, finished the game.

The Dodgers’ bullpen on the other hand, only allowed one run in the last five innings and it occurred after the offense gave them a three-run insurance policy.

Nick Ahmed has now hit six home runs this season. Ahmed has homered in back-to-back games — the first time that’s happened in his career. He’s the fourth D-back to accomplish that feat, joining A.J. Pollock, Mark Trumbo and Paul Goldschmidt, who has done it four times.
