...

The best remedy to cure a six-game losing streak?

A visit by the Miami Marlins, of course.

The Arizona Diamondbacks snapped their season-worst slide with a 3-1 series-opening win in front of an announced crowd of 17,668 at Chase Field on Monday.

Rubby De La Rosa pitched seven solid innings, while David Peralta hit a two-run single to help lift the D-backs to victory.

De La Rosa also added an RBI in the D-backs’ fifth straight victory over the Marlins, earning the team’s first victory overall since July 8.

De La Rosa (6-6) held the Marlins — losers of four in a row — scoreless through six innings before allowing a home run to Derek Dietrich to lead off the seventh.

For De La Rosa, he ended a two-game losing streak and four-start winless drought despite issuing a season-high five walks. He was aided by four double-play balls.

Peralta’s hit, one of eight by the D-backs, seven of them singles, came with two outs and the bases loaded in the third inning off starter David Phelps (4-6), who dropped to 0-3 in three career appearances against the D-backs.

Brad Ziegler recorded the game’s final five outs for his 15th save.

THE GOOD

Lining the first pitch he saw into left field for a base hit to lead off the first inning, Ender Inciarte reached base safely for the 11th time in 12 career games against the Marlins. He finished the night 1-for-4.

More first-pitch swinging, this time by Peralta, resulted in the D-backs’ first runs of the game. After A.J. Pollock and Paul Goldschmidt walked ahead of him to load the bases with two outs in the third inning, Peralta laced a 92 mph fastball into left field for a two-run single. He finished 1-for-4 and is now batting .314 (16-for-51) with 11 RBI in his last 14 games, reaching base safely in 13.

The two-run third inning rally began with a lead off triple by Nick Ahmed, his second of the season. Ahmed, who went 1-for-2 with a walk, was simply outstanding in the field. He recorded 10 assists — including a bare-handed catch and throw to force Christian Yelich out at second base in the eighth inning — the second-most by a D-backs shortstop in club history.

With his sixth-inning single, Jake Lamb recorded his third multi-hit game of the month and 11th of the season, raising his batting average to .281. He’s hitting .333 (10-for-30) with one triple and two RBI in his last nine home games.

With his eighth-inning single, Chris Owings recorded his third multi-hit game of the month and 15th of the season, raising his batting average to .235. He’s hitting .368 (7-for-19) with a double, home run and two RBI in his last five games.

THE BAD

Though he held the Marlins hitless from innings two through four, De La Rosa issued a combined three walks during those three innings, including a pair with two outs in the fourth. He ended the game with five, tying a career-high which he set back in 2011, his rookie year.

No D-backs pitcher has given up more home runs this season than De La Rosa. He surrendered his 22nd when Derek Dietrich led off the seventh inning with a solo shot, his fourth of the season. Dietrich lifted the 1-1 offering just over Inciarte’s glove in right field, the ball hitting off the yellow padding before landing in the seats.

Welington Castillo failed to get a hit in his four at-bats, ending a streak of at least one hit in consecutive starts at nine. Entering Monday’s game, he had reached base via a hit or a walk in 21 of his last 24 games, hitting .317 (26-for-82) with seven doubles, four home runs, 13 RBI and nine walks.

STAT OF THE GAME

5: The number of outs Ziegler recorded for the save, his sixth five-out save of his career and the first since June 22, 2009.

HE SAID IT

“Our bullpen has been used a lot the last three days,” Ziegler said, “so we needed to give some guys some rest tonight. If I could accomplish that, then great. It sets us up a lot better going forward.”

NOTED

Two pitches into the game and the D-backs recorded their 13th successful challenge of the season after a 92-second instant replay review overturned Ichiro Suzuki’s hit-by-pitch.

Including his third-inning at-bat, Peralta is hitting .425 (17-for-40) with 26 RBI with runners in scoring position and two outs.

D-backs pitchers induced four double-play balls for the second time this season.

Danny Dorn, who did not play in the game, celebrated his 31st birthday Monday.

Three-time world heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali enjoyed the game from the owner’s suite.

Dansby Swanson, the first-overall selection, visited Chase Field (for the first time) to officially sign his contract, meet Hale, the coaches and players, and watch batting practice.

Arizona Cardinals’ Patrick Peterson, Jerraud Powers and Rashad Johnson shagged fly balls during batting practice.

UP NEXT

Forced to leave his last start because of a blister on his right thumb, Jeremy Hellickson takes the mound in game two of the three-game series on Tuesday, July 21.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. with pregame coverage beginning 40 minutes earlier on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM.

Hellickson will be opposed by fellow right-hander Matt Latos.

Hellickson (6-5) went four innings, allowing two runs on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts at Texas on July 8 before exiting the game.

Prior to that outing, he had gone 5-2 over his last eight starts.

Though Hellickson has no official record in three career starts against the Marlins, his team is 3-0, including a 4-2 road win on May 19 in which Hellickson gave up two runs on four hits, including a home run, with one walk and four strikeouts.

Latos, meanwhile, has dropped two of his last three starts, including what may have been his best performance of the season, a one-run, one-hit seven-inning effort at the Chicago Cubs on July 5. The Marlins lost the game, 2-0, dropping Latos to 3-6.

He’s in his first season in Miami after three years with the Cincinnati Reds.

Latos is 4-1 with a 3.32 ERA in nine starts lifetime against the D-backs, who roughed him up for six runs on seven hits over 5.1 innings earlier this season.
