Cardinals snap 8-game losing streak against Rams with dominant road win

The Arizona Cardinals were 0-8 against the Los Angeles Rams since Sean McVay became head coach in 2017, but that ended with a 37-20 road win on Sunday.

During those eight games, the Rams outscored the Cardinals by 160 points, averaging 31.4 points per game to the Cardinals’ 11.4 per game.

The losing streak saw three different Cardinals head coaches as Bruce Arians started the streak with two losses in 2017, Steve Wilks in 2018 and four straight losses by Kingsbury that was finally stopped Sunday.

The last meeting between the two teams was Week 17 of the 2020 season when backup quarterback John Wolford led the Rams to victory over the Cardinals that ultimately eliminated them from playoff contention.

The first win over the Rams since the season finale of 2016 came at a crucial point. Arizona moves to 4-0 while in sole possession of first place in the NFC West, sitting one game ahead of the Rams and two games ahead of both the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers, who both are 2-2.

Arizona held a 24-13 lead at the half before cruising to victory. With the loss, McVay is now 6-22 in his career while trailing at half.

The Cardinals entered Sunday’s contest as 3.5-point underdogs, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

Arizona will host the 49ers for a Week 5 matchup in Glendale at 1:25 p.m. on FOX and 98.7 FM Arizona Sports Station.
