It turns out Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marquise Brown had more ties to his new team coming in than his Oklahoma connections like quarterback Kyler Murray.

When asked about fellow receiver Greg Dortch on Thursday, Brown revealed that the two were roommates during the NFL Scouting Combine in 2019.

Both players were limited due to injuries at the showcase, as Brown had a foot issue and Dortch a wrist injury.

Brown said that made Dortch talkative.

“Just talking, I think he had like an injury so he was just complaining and talking,” Brown said. “He was just more so wanting to showcase what he could do. Like, ‘I know him one of the best.’ He wanted to be able to show it. He always had that chip on his shoulder.”

Brown said he knew Dortch had something in him at that point. The former Sooners receiver called Dortch a bright light at Wake Forest, so he knew about him beforehand.

For Dortch, getting Brown — a First-Team All American — as a roommate was eye opening.

“I was kinda hyped,” Dortch said on Thursday’s Big Red Rage. “I was like, ‘Dang, they paired me with Marquis Brown?’ I didn’t know him at the time. You just hear about him on the TV. You see him on the TV, him and (Murray).”

Dortch said the experience was cool as the two receivers had a lot in common. They are both shorter players with Brown at 5-foot-9 and Dortch 5-foot-7, plus Dortch said Brown exuded confidence, which is how he strived to play.

Brown was taken in the first round of the draft in 2019, while Dortch went undrafted. Yet, they will both have major roles Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Dortch led the Cardinals with nine targets and seven catches in Week 1 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Brown admitted that Dortch was right when he did all that talking at the combine.

“You wouldn’t know he’d been through the things he went through with the way he carries himself, and I’m excited for the opportunity that he has,” Brown said. “And I know he’ll keep showing up.”
