Arizona Cardinals QB Kolb sore, but X-rays are negative

Oct 15, 2012, 6:20 PM | Updated: 7:35 pm

Cardinals quarterback Kevin Kolb left Sunday’s loss to the Bills with just over two minutes left in the fourth quarter with a chest injury.

Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said after the game Kolb would get X-rays to see if there was a problem, and Monday the coach said things appear to be fine. Mostly.

“Results came back negative for his ribs and his sternum,” Whisenhunt said of the X-rays. “We’re getting an MRI done on him [Monday] just to make sure there’s not something that we’re missing, but we’ll get the results back later on that.”

Whisenhunt went on to say Kolb was “pretty sore this morning, which you would expect,” but added that the QB was moving around.

As for Kolb’s availability moving forward, Whisenhunt said nothing can be determined until the full extent of the player’s injury is known. If he is unable to go Sunday against the Vikings John Skelton, who was the starter when the season began until losing the job after getting hurt, would take over.

People wondered what Whisenhunt would do once Skelton was healthy enough to play, but with Kolb hurt the decision may have been made for him. QB controversy solved, or merely postponed?

“I don’t think we have to make any decisions like that,” Whisenhunt said. “It’s very early for us to even talk about that right now.”
