We are used to seeing extraordinary things from Arizona Diamondbacks MVP candidate Paul Goldschmidt on a nightly basis.

So what he did on Wednesday night really doesn’t come as much of a surprise to anyone.

In the first inning, Goldschmidt took a hanging 92-MPH fastball from pitcher St. Louis Cardinals pitcher John Lackey and destroyed it for his 25th home run of the season to put the good guys on top 1-0 early.

The word destroyed may actually be an understatement.

Goldschmidt’s home run went off the left steel beam above the picnic patio in left center field, which seems like it’s farther than the 471-foot estimation.

The home run was also Goldy’s 108th of his career, which tied former D-backs outfielder Justin Upton for fifth on the team’s all-time home run list.

It was another signature moment in the great career of the Diamondbacks first baseman.
