Whisenhunt plans to re-evaluate during bye

The Arizona Cardinals are officially under .500 for the first time all season.

After a red-hot start, it is hard to believe that the Cardinals have lost their last five games and find themselves at 4-5.

Entering their bye week, the Cardinals have more questions than answers. Luckily for head coach Ken Whisenhunt, a week off will give him an opportunity to look at what exactly isn’t working for his team.

“It gives a chance to work on some of our inconsistencies, to look at our scheme and what we are doing, look at our players that we are doing it with,” Whisenhunt said. “Plus it gives us a chance to get healthier, that’s a big thing.”

Coming so late in the season, Whisenhunt feels that this bye week will give him a chance to learn more about his team. At certain positions, it may lead to a change in personnel.

“This gives us a chance with some of our players, to evaluate them over more than a one game, or two game or three game period,” Whisenhunt said. “You can look at a body of work and say we are not getting it done and we are willing to make a change and go with the next guy and see what he can do.”

Whisenhunt explained that usually changes happen on a weekly basis, but the coaching staff rarely has enough time to look at the entire season, like they will during the bye.

Despite the Cardinals’ lack of success in the past few weeks, Whisenhunt remains optimistic that his team has what it takes to get back on track.

“As tough as it is to say, we have had situations in all of these (past five) games that we could have made a difference, and we haven’t done it,” Whisenhunt said. “But we have done it at one point this season and I think we can get back to that.”
