Report: Jacoby Brissett reports to Cardinals training camp

Quarterback Jacoby Brissett answered the first big question of Arizona Cardinals training camp by reporting alongside the team’s veterans Wednesday, but his long-term situation remains unresolved.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport reported Brissett was in the building but there is “nothing new as of right now on his contract.”

Brissett, who is expected to enter camp as Arizona’s Week 1 starter, showed up at the Dignity Health Arizona Cardinals Training Center in Tempe and avoided mandatory fines. However, whether he actively participates when practices begin Thursday will signal if a full-fledged holdout is underway.

The 33-year-old veteran is seeking a revised contract after stepping in as the starter last season following the departure of Kyler Murray. Brissett is currently scheduled to earn up to $5.39 million in 2026, but only $1.5 million of his base salary is guaranteed.

His current deal sits below market rate for an NFL starter and trails the contract of backup Gardner Minshew II, who signed this offseason on a deal featuring higher guaranteed pay.

Brissett, who acts as his own agent, skipped voluntary offseason workouts and did not participate in team drills during June’s mandatory minicamp as negotiations stalled. While both sides reportedly agree Brissett deserves a raise, they have yet to close the gap on financial terms.

Despite the ongoing dispute, Brissett spent part of the summer hosting private workouts in South Florida with key playmakers, including tight end Trey McBride and wide receiver Michael Wilson, both of whom turned in career years with Brissett under center last season. Teammates, including veteran safety Budda Baker, have publicly voiced support for the quarterback’s contract push.

If Brissett opts to hold out during practice, the Cardinals will turn to Minshew and rookie third-round pick Carson Beck to handle first-team reps under center.

The Cardinals kick off their full training camp schedule on Thursday, where Brissett’s level of participation will be the main storyline to watch.
