Report: Jacoby Brissett, Cardinals still without a contract resolution

Jacoby Brissett and the Cardinals have reportedly been "actively negotiating for the last several months and agree he's due a raise."

The Arizona Cardinals have yet to come to an agreement on a new contract with quarterback Jacoby Brissett a day ahead of the team reporting for training camp on Wednesday.

The two sides “have been actively negotiating for the last several months and agree (Brissett is) due a raise,” though haven’t agreed on a number, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

If Brissett, who is his own agent, and the team are unable to come to an agreement on a new deal before the start of camp, a hold-in seems like the next step in the ongoing contract saga.

Brissett remained away from the team throughout voluntary offseason work after his request to be paid as Arizona’s starter went public. He was back in Tempe for mandatory minicamp but did not participate during the lone practice day.

The veteran has long been viewed as the expected Week 1 starter since Kyler Murray’s release this offseason.

Even when QB Gardner Minshew II was signed this free agency, it was to back up Brissett, according to Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro.

Minshew, however, is slated to make more guaranteed money than Brissett this year.

Brissett went 1-11 as a starter last year but did get the best out of tight end Trey McBride and wide receiver Michael Wilson, who turned in career years with the veteran under center.

He’s continued to receive the support of his teammates throughout his contract dispute with the team.

There is, however, the Carson Beck factor to consider if you are Arizona.

Brissett may have earned a pay bump for his play last year, but his time as a starter appears limited with Beck on deck.

Arizona is in search of a new franchise quarterback, and Beck is the first option to consider.

This season i am surely going to miss the "home game" blackout rule. This team has been granted so much leeway by the fans, and they seem to continually regress to the Bidwell Sr days. 30 years of pure "nothingness" with a few gotcha years.

I have zero idea of where each side is in these negotiations but this is typical of the Cardinals. And to a bit of an extent I’d have to agree with Brissett because if Minshew is actually guaranteed more money in his contract as an expected backup to Brissett that’s a disrespectful slap in the face to Brissett.

Either step up or cut bait, Bidwell. Your reputation and this team’s reputation is swirling down the drain!

Me, the wannabe owner/GM, have been thinking incentives as well. Fully guarantee his $4.9M and add incentives potentially worth another $4-5M.
