Phoenix Suns guard Koby Brea recorded one of the wackier NBA preseason highlights Wednesday night when he knocked down a long 3-pointer in transition — without his right shoe on.

Brea lost his shoe early in the previous defensive possession and was even shoeless when he helped contest a shot by San Antonio Spurs forward David Jones Garcia to get the Suns out in transition.

From there, he scurried around an official trying to remove his shoe from the court, received a pass from Jamaree Bouyea and took one dribble before launching a 27-foot bomb that swished through the net. The shot was reminiscent of Mike Miller’s shoeless three for the Miami Heat in Game 6 of the 2013 NBA Finals.

That was one of two fastbreak 3-pointers Brea made on the night — with the other one being from even farther out — as he finished the preseason loss with seven points.

A Suns second-round pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, Brea mainly played in the G League on a two-way contract during his rookie year last season. He was signed to another two-way contract ahead of the upcoming season, as he will continue trying to crack the team’s rotation as a sharpshooter.

Considered one of the best shooters in his draft class, Brea shot just 31.3% from deep on 10.7 attempts per game in the G League. He struggled again during the 2026 Summer League (27.6% on 5.8 attempts), but Wednesday night’s 2-for-3 performance from beyond the arc has Brea trending back in the right direction with the regular season around the corner.

Brea will need to further improve the other areas of his game beyond just his long-range shooting in order to stick around, but at least he’ll always have this highlight to cherish.
