Arizona State starting cornerback Rodney Bimage Jr. will “probably be out for the year” after suffering an apparent right leg injury during the Sun Devils’ win over Colorado on Saturday, according to head coach Kenny Dillingham.

“Yeah, I mean, that was not a good one. Unfortunately, he’ll probably be out for the year unless something drastically changes. Probably won’t be a quick recovery — sucks for him, he’s worked his butt off to get to the point to be the starter here — and yeah, it’s painful to watch,” Dillingham said of Bimage’s injury postgame.

The injury occurred during the first half when Bimage was trying to defend a Colorado screen pass. Bimage had to be taken off the field on a medical cart with his leg wrapped in an air cast.

ASU’s defense rallied around the significant loss of its junior starter, putting together one of its best performances of the season — recording four sacks, eight tackles for loss and holding the Buffaloes to just 10 points.

“That guy gives everything he’s got every day — whether that’s a Tuesday practice or a Saturday game — to see someone go down like that, obviously is not something that we want, but the team rallied around it,” linebacker Owen Long told reporters postgame.

Bimage did not record a defensive stat in the game before getting injured but has been one of ASU’s best defensive players in the secondary with 26 tackles, five passes defensed, 1.5 tackles for loss and a fumble recovery.
