Larry Fitzgerald, please don’t ever change.
The Arizona Cardinals receiver will go down as one of the greatest players in franchise history and is likely to one day enter the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
This past season, when many thought he was incapable of posting the kind of numbers he did during his prime years, the 32-year-old caught a career-best 109 passes for 1,215 yards and nine touchdowns in the regular season, and then in the playoffs caught 12 passes for 206 yards and one score.
While his entire season was great, there was one play that stands out above the rest.
It happened during the team’s Wild Card Round win over the Green Bay Packers, and at this point, you probably know which one we’re talking about.
Beginning the first drive of overtime at their own 20, Cardinals QB Carson Palmer eluded the pass rush, spun around and found a wide-open Fitzgerald, who raced down the field and stiff-armed would-be defenders on his way to the Green Bay five. Two plays later he punched it into the end zone on a shovel pass, but it was the long pass play that really changed the momentum of the game and set the Cardinals up for victory.
Really, it was as memorable play as you are likely to find in an NFL game, which is why it’s not surprise a young fan who saw Fitzgerald at the Waste Management Phoenix Open brought it up to the star receiver.
“Nice stiff-arm you gave to the Packers,” the fan said. “Nice stiff-arm you gave.”
How Fitzgerald responded to the fan might catch people off guard, but for anyone who has followed the player’s career, it really shouldn’t.
