Cardinals reportedly interested in German receiver

Have you ever heard of the German Football League?

Didn’t think so.

But there is one. American football continues to grow in popularity around the world and Germany has a premier league comprised of 16 teams.

More people are paying attention to the German Football League currently because it features a wide receiver that several teams — including the Arizona Cardinals — have interest in drafting next month.

His name is Moritz Boehringer, and he’s causing quite a stir. The 6-foot-4, 225-pounder is 22-years-old, making him draft-eligible. He was promoted to the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns of the GFL in 2015, and dominated. Boehringer had 70 catches for 1,461 yards and 16 touchdowns in his first pro season, which ended with him being named the GFL Rookie of the Year.

NFL media analyst Gil Brandt confirmed there is interest in the German phenom.

“I’d be intrigued, that’s for sure,” Brandt said in an article posted on NFL.com “He’s the kind of guy you rush out and see.”

Boehringer is in Florida to participate in FAU’s pro day Thursday. NFL.com reported that in addition to the Cardinals, the Green Bay Packers, Denver Broncos and Minnesota Vikings all have interest in him.

It is worth noting that the Cardinals currently own six picks in this year’s draft.
