It sounds like Bruce Arians is well on his way to planning a trip to the beach, but the Cardinals won’t have much time to relax.

It’s going to be a business trip.

Arians said he and San Diego Chargers coach Mike McCoy continue to put together details of a few days of joint practices with his Arizona Cardinals leading into the teams’ Week 2 preseason game on Friday, August 19.

Arians told Arizona Sports 98.7 FM’s Bickley and Marotta the teams will likely hold an open joint practice in the Chargers’ Qualcomm Stadium the Tuesday before gameday then run through a closed practice the following day.

The Cardinals — and the Chargers for that matter — will benefit from practicing against a different scheme and fresh personnel. But Arians, as his policy has been over his tenure in Arizona, doesn’t expect his Cardinals to find themselves in any practice scuffles while squaring off against the Chargers.

“There will be no fighting. We’re there to practice. When we’re there, we’re one team,” Arians said. “There’s no place in the game for it. I mean, it can’t happen on Sundays. If it can’t happen on Sundays, it can’t happen on practice because you’re practicing what you’re doing in games.”

Arizona last held a joint practice with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2012.
