Daniel Hudson is the longest tenured Arizona Diamondback. He has been in the desert since 2010. He is a free agent after this season and knows that his time in Sedona Red could be coming to an end.

With the trade deadline fast approaching and the Diamondbacks already out of the race for the NL West and behind six teams in the wild-card standings, general manager Dave Stewart could be looking to trade some veterans.

And Huddy falls into that category along with closer Brad Ziegler. Arizona will only trade Huddy if some real value is offered — meaning they aren’t going to give him away.

Despite his recent struggles, Hudson is a valuable bullpen arm capable of pitching in pressure late-inning situations. And he is only 29 years old. If no trade arises, Arizona would like to keep Hudson if the price is right. But in the meantime, they will be fielding calls from contending teams who are interested in his services.

Hudson, for his part, wants to stay but understands the business side of it.

“This team is better than we have played this year, and I want to be here when we’re good the next couple of years,” said Hudson.

He gets that it may be in the best interests of the organization to trade him, but he does prefer staying with the Diamondbacks and being a part of future success than being traded to a contender for the stretch run.
